Olive Leaf has been used to lower blood pressure. Studies have indicated it acts as an antioxidant against LDL cholesterol, thus preventing the build up of cholesterol inside artery walls which starts the process of hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis). This action may explain its blood pressure lowering qualities as it helps to keep the arteries pliable, thus decreasing the amount of force needed to push the blood through. Its traditional use is also for lowering blood sugar levels and it has some antibacterial and antiviral effects. It has also demonstrated some anti-fungal properties. Its protective properties are such that this is a good herb for colds or flu and for skin conditions such as psoriasis.
