Kava Kava root has a sedative-like property, which is why it is often used for inducing physical and mental relaxation. It is useful for anxiety and panic attacks, insomnia, depression and stress related disorders. It has some pain relieving properties, too, and is useful in recovery from injury. It has also been used as a tonic or tea for pains associated with nerve and skin diseases. This is a wonderful herb to use in “fearful” situations, such as if you fear flying, or experience a panic attack when speaking in front of an audience. Start with a lower amount to see how you react as this herb can make you sleepy. Kava Kava is a 6 foot plant native to Pacific Islands; it is a distant relative of the pepper plant from which we get black pepper.
