St. John’s Wort has calming properties and more since it helps to both soothe nerves and to heal and strengthen them. It can be used as a nerve tonic and as a sleep aid for insomnia. This herb has more to offer, too. It is anti-viral and, like many antidepressants, it has pain relieving properties. Anyone with chronic pain or stress may find this herb beneficial. There is a caution: prolonged use may make you sensitive to sunlight.
St. John’s Wort is an easy to grow perennial herb but be advised, it is considered an invasive plant; that is, it will take over growing areas that might otherwise contain forage for other animals. I usually avoid planting invasive plants. After all, they’re good at escaping from your well tended garden which is how they become invasive.
