Uva Ursi leaves have long been used for urinary tract health, from reducing kidney or bladder stones, to cystitis, to strengthening the kidneys. Uva Ursi requires an alkaline pH in your body to work. If in doubt, take a heaping tsp. of baking soda in a glass of water, then use the Uva Ursi. It may turn your urine green. This plant is a perennial evergreen shrub that grows in North America. The leaves are small and leathery looking. The product is available as an herb capsule and as an extract. The extract is more concentrated and is absorbed more quickly by your body. If you gather the leaves yourself, fall is the best time to do it. You can dry them for tea making or soak them in vodka or brandy for your own tincture which is preserved by the alcohol. A tsp. of tincture to a cup of water is all you need. The plant grows in the northern parts of the U.S. and is also known as bearberry.
