Norway Spruce

spruce-218x300Think Christmas tree and you will know what a Norway Spruce looks like.  Get sick and you may wish you had one growing nearby.  The young shoots are used to make a tea.  When warm the tea acts as an expectorant to loosen and bring up congestion; when hot, it can promote perspiration which is your body’s way of getting rid of toxins.  Norway spruce is a natural remedy for cold, flu, and bronchitis and has some calming properties to help.  I never know when to call something a spruce or a pine; I still don’t but spruce is a species of pine so you sometimes see them listed as Norway pine.  If you know a gardener, the kit I suggest on this blog makes a great gift.  If you have children and want to tweak their interest in growing things, it makes a great project for children.  If you decide to plant one, remember, it’s big.  It can eventually grow to over 100 feet.
