Nasturtium is a lovely annual plant that will fill your garden with bright splashes of color. Its claim as a healer is its ability to break up congestion in the respiratory tract plus it’s highly antiseptic. It’s a peppery plant with a flavor much like watercress. It seems most of your “hot” plants are excellent decongestants. The beauty of nasturtium is that the whole plant is edible, flowers, leaves, stems, even the seeds. The seed, while still soft, can be pickled and used like capers in cooking. The leaves and especially the flowers add a bright and tasty touch to any salad. It is easily grown from seed and can be a fairly compact plant or a trailing plant over 5 feet long. There’s a size for every garden.
