Hops

| July 17, 2014

hopsHops has pain relieving properties, is diuretic (gets rid of excess fluid), and is a sedative.  You will find it in herbal blends with other herbs for calming and stress relieving.  It’s also used in making American beer where it acts as a preservative and bitter agent.  The plant is a hardy perennial vine growing to 20′ and is a beautiful green addition to any yard big enough to hold it.  If you want to grow hops for sale to beer making companies, be sure to check which variety they use as there are several different varieties.  You also see the hops dried and available for use in potpourris and other dried arrangements; or for tea.  Steep 3 or 4 hops in boiling water for 5 minutes, then strain and drink and be prepared for a good night’s sleep.
