Heather has so many benefits. When the flowering shoots are brewed as a tea, the tea will help digestion by promoting the secretion of bile. Heather is also antiseptic, diuretic, expectorant, and is a vasoconstrictor; that is, is tightens arteries and veins and can slightly raise your blood pressure. It can strengthen the heart and is useful for gout. I’ve purchased heather plants in the past but haven’t had much luck in getting it to grow. It grows wild in profusion on the Moors of England so if you could recreate this kind of wet environment, you may be able to grow it. Heather is a lovely plant if you can grow it and it certainly is useful.
