Hollyhock

| August 6, 2014

hollyhockIs is any wonder that many “old time” plants and flowers were also used to treat ailments?  At one time, the only pharmacy you had was in your garden, and pharmacists had huge gardens.  So what does hollyhock do?  A tea made from hollyhock flowers helps to soothe inflammation especially in the mouth and throat, but also externally when applied to the skin.  The hollyhock is a standby for the back of the border where it’s tall spikes reach to the sky and are covered with flowers.  This is a lovely plant and comes in a variety of colors.  It also reseeds itself easily although individual plants may last several years.
