Bananas are an energy source being both high in fruit sugars and many vitamins and minerals. They also have a great deal of fiber. Because they are soft and easily chewed and digestible they make a good choice for anyone convalescing or anyone with a bowel disturbance. They’re also a good choice for children as their sweet flavor is very satisfying as a treat. Bananas have been around at least 4,000 years and have spread to every tropical country. A type of banana, the plantain is not eaten fresh but is cooked and is used much like we use potatoes in the U.S.
